Many wakeboarding tips and wakeboarding videos go over the elements necessary to start wakeboarding such as having a wakeboard and learning some of the basics about how to ride about it. They might talk about fat sacs for boats and about the importance of a wet suite. However all of this is irrelevant if you don’t have a boat, so here we’ll look at the boats that are best for wakeboarding and how to prepare them.
To start with, the boat used for wakeboarding does not need to be as powerful as one used for water skiing. A good starting point is a 16 to 17 foot boat with a 50 or 90 hp outboard motor, while for optimum performance a 19 foot boat with a 135 hp outboard motor will provide the best balance of power.
What’s important is that the boat is capable of constantly pulling your weight while going at speeds of around 15 to 18 miles an hour which are the speeds you’ll normally be travelling at when wakeboarding.
